Teaching and Advising

Digital First

Day-to-day course management is always electronic. In addition to my institutional offerings, I also operate a custom instance of the open-source Moodle LMS to demo and single-source my course materials.

For student websites, I host a custom-built WordPress platform so students can quickly spin up individual websites for portfolios and other course projects, so I can curate, configure, and secure the site network.

Designed Materials

Important documents, such as course syllabi, assignment guidelines, and assessment materials are designed user-first, so that objectives, processes, criteria, and policies are lucid and accessible.

Course materials are organized and hosted online, and content is sometimes delivered as embedable and sharable slides.

As a general practice, my courses focus on professional projects and I seek to establish consensus and solicit feedback.

Teaching Philosophy

I've developed critical, libratory pedagogies that can provide transformative literacy experiences for diverse learners–the kind of meaningful literacy experiences that motivate and empower.

Using pedagogies borrowed from technical communication (simulation), composition (process and workshops), and design (studio model and the crit), I help students develop mastery of concepts and skills related to a variety of professional communication.
